Haven UK Fanclub Trip 2014 Part 2 – feat. Jayne Eastwood and Eric Balfour!

Day 4 including videos with Eric Balfour!

After a lazy morning chilling out at Kiwi Cafe in the ‘Haven corner’ we decided to trek around Chester and visit other Haven locations around town. The locals will tell you that round every corner is a place used in the show, and most streets have been seen as background. It can get difficult to spot them, places look very different when dressed by the amazing art department! But the beauty of the place in every direction is outstanding.

On the northern end of town we stopped at Chester Middle School – featured as a school in ep 110 where we see the headmistress get blown up in her car!

Then we found Nilu Gym and Cameron’s Antique Store. The owner told us the interior had been used as a shop in season 4, but we don’t know which episode (I’m guessing 406).

One interesting observation about the locals is that though they support the show, they generally don’t watch it, the main reason being cited is that it’s really weird seeing their hometown on screen and trying to believe it’s another place entirely. I hope I don’t suffer the same predicament now too!

Soon we found the Guard graveyard, featured in Season 1, and repeatedly in season 3, including the adjacent road where Jordan (ironically) was murdered. It does look different in the show as it was changed using CGI, and the bench where Jordan and Nathan got busy, was not visible.

Next stop: The Lido Pool

This semi-circular outdoor pool overlooking the sea was featured in ep 110 where a kid got boiled alive. Thankfully it looked a lot less sinister when we saw it, with plenty of people milling about.

Finally we headed to the Chester Yacht Club and the adjacent bandstand, where Nathan and Jeanine hilariously talk cake trouble in ep 312 ‘The Reunion’. Sarah and Laurence tried to re-enact that scene – did it work?

We headed to the Fo’c’sle for dinner with Jayne Eastwood. She had been filming that day in the Haven morgue. Jayne was very complimentary about her co-stars. The Teagues A.K.A. John Dunsworth and Richard Donat are local to Nova Scotia and well known actors, and she has a lot of respect for them. One of Jayne’s favourite scenes in season 5 is her and the Teagues in the autopsy room having a drink! I can’t wait to see that – Jayne couldn’t say much but I imagine hilarity ensues!

We had just got our food when Eric Balfour walked in! Jayne introduced us and Eric kindly chatted briefly and took pics with us, despite still having work to do. We presented him with his fan collage. Needless to say, he was lovely.

We explained the fan poster as he signed it…

He started telling us a story of how his mum used to always make him rice pudding and strawberry shortcake, before things got cheeky…
